CTA Proposed Budget Holds Line On Fares, Schedules

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- CTA riders won't face any fare hikes or service cuts, but next year's budget for the transit agency warns of trouble down the line.

The CTA budget calls for $1.5 billion for operations and a five-year, $2.9 billion capital improvement plan for facilities, stations, and equipment.

In a letter included in the budget document, CTA president Dorval Carter said the agency was able to balance the budget despite a shortfall in state funding for both operations and infrastructure.

The budget funds modernization efforts along the Red and Purple lines, station rehab projects, and a new stop on the Green Line at Damen.

The state has been without a capital infrastructure bill since 2009.
