CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Public Schools students will still be getting a holiday on what is generally called Columbus Day, but it will no longer be known as that.

CPS schools will still be closed on the second Monday of October, but solely as Indigenous Peoples Day.

The Board of Education this week voted to drop the dual designation that also recognized Columbus Day.

The panel also approved a plan to examine artwork at CPS buildings that some may consider racist. A committee will study problematic works and make recommendations about what to do with them; in some cases, “culturally responsive” art could be displayed next to the controversial ones.
