CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago Police Department launched Friday an Operation Clean in the 10th (Ogden) District to build on Mayor Lightfoot's all-hands-on-deck, multi-department effort to protect and serve Chicago's residents and communities.

In partnership with the Department of Streets and Sanitation and other city departments and agencies, the Operation Clean mission will deliver a comprehensive amount of resources to Chicago's North Lawndale neighborhood including fixing broken streetlights and potholes, repairing damaged buildings, removing unwanted graffiti and cleaning empty lots.

CPD Community Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) officers will meet with other city departments and agencies at 2332 S Western Avenue at 9 a.m. By retooling CPD's approach to crime-fighting strategy around collaboration and citywide coordination, the Department is able to be more effective in addressing the root causes of violence head-on.

To build on these efforts amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chicago Police Department and Mayor’s Office of Violence Reduction continue to work with the violence interrupters, block clubs and street outreach organizations on the ground in Chicago's neighborhoods to ensure they have the public health resources, supports and latest Stay-at-Home Order guidance needed to amplify our efforts and keep residents safe and healthy.
