CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Authorities say a 5-year-old boy was bitten in the head by a coyote in Lincoln Park on Wednesday afternoon.

It was about 4 p.m. when police say the boy was bitten multiple times by the coyote, outside the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum on Cannon Drive.

A fire department spokesman says the boy was bitten on the head.

Authorities say the boy was with an adult and that person took the boy to seek refuge on a bus.

Police say the coyote ran north. The boy was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital in stable condition.

A spokesman for the city of Chicago says Animal Care and Control sent inspectors out to look for the coyote.

"Though it is extremely rare for a coyote to approach or bite a person, residents should take caution if they encounter a coyote and notify Chicago Animal Care and Control by calling 311," the spokesman said.
