CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Cook County has recorded its sixth death this season due in part to exposure to cold weather.

Natalia Derevyanny of the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said Wednesday the latest death involved a 31-year-old man, who died from a combination of cold exposure and cocaine use Nov. 15 on Lawler Avenue near Thomas Street.

She says when someone’s health is compromised or if they abuse drugs or alcohol, exposure to the cold becomes even more dangerous.

Derevyanny says all six cold-related deaths in Cook County this season involved people who also had health problems or who had consumed drugs or alcohol.
