CHANNAHON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A construction worker was injured Wednesday afternoon, after he was pinned by a piece of construction equipment in southwest suburban Channahon.

Channahon Fire Chief John Petrakis said the worker was part of a crew excavating dirt from a park district path under construction near Route 6 and Silver Leaf Circle. A piece of equipment Petrakis called a "concrete cart" flipped over onto the man, trapping him.

It took about 30 minutes to free the worker, with the help of fire crews from neighboring Minooka, Petrakis said.

The man suffered "various upper extremity injuries,” he said.

The man was flown to an unspecified trauma center for treatment.

An investigation about the accident was underway. Further details weren’t available.
