CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Chicago mayoral candidate Toni Preckwinkle is celebrating support from West Side Congressman Danny Davis.

Davis said Tuesday he’s proud that two African-American women – Preckwinkle and her opponent, Lori Lightfoot – are running for mayor.

He said he admires Lightfoot’s accomplishments as a lawyer and professional but stressed Preckwinkle, a former Chicago alderman and current Cook County Board president, for her considerable experience in government.

Davis made the endorsement surrounded by elected officials and church leaders from the West Side.

Preckwinkle and Lightfoot are running against each other in the April 2 runoff after both emerged as the top vote-getters in the crowded Feb. 26 mayoral election.
