CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The 66th annual Columbus Day parade kicked off from State and Wacker as thousands lined the parade route on a warm afternoon.

No everyone was in a celebratory mood, WBBM Newsradio’s Michele Fiore reports.

There was more than an hour and a half of entertainment, Italian-style, with a lot of red, white and green Italian flags, floats and pompons.

A handful of protesters, however, said Columbus was not a hero, given that his mission brought about the end of Native American cultures.

They called on Chicago to change the name of this day to Indigenous Peoples Day.
