Clerk Dorothy Brown To Announce For Chicago Mayor

April 19, 2018 - 3:07 pm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --  Despite a federal investigation, Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown is prepared to announce that she is a candidate for mayor of Chicago.

Brown has never been one to shy away from a fight. She's getting into one -- the race for mayor, this time with the cloud of a federal investigation hanging over her.

The feds reportedly have been looking into her office for years, and Brown, a Democrat, has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

Now, she has scheduled a Sunday mayoral campaign kickoff.

It's a crowded field already. Among those challenging incumbent Rahm Emanuel are former police superintendent Garry McCarthy; former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas; and self-made millionaire businessman Willie Wilson.

Brown won re-election easily two years ago, amid talk of the federal investigation. She has a strong base of support among African-American church congregations.
