CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago has great urban benefits, and the cold is something you can get over if you have the right layers, transportation and the right food. Thankfully, we have all that. A new CityLab survey asked Americans to rank their city based on transit and tacos. And guess who came in first in both of the categories? Yeah, that's right, Chicago.

The survey started with a Twitter joke and turned into a fun experiment, according to the CityLab Dec. 14 article. The survey got over 1,000 responses and asked readers to rank tacos and transit in their cities from 1 to 10. While no city got a perfect score, Chicago received the highest for both categories. Other cities like New York, Portland and Philly followed suit, but Chicago still won the spot.

Carter Rubin, a mobility and climate advocate at the Natural Resources Defense Council, was the one to start the internet survey on a whim, said the CityLab article. In a little over the week, he took his idea of combining two pretty random ideas into one survey and got an explosive amount of responses.

“I know how passionate people are about transit and tacos,” Rubin told CityLab. “It just seemed fun to pick two completely unrelated metrics and start plotting where we all fell.”

Some cities got high points in one category but not both. Chicago paired a survey-best with an 8.1 rating for its transit system with a very solid 8.2 taco score—slightly better than San Francisco.

“My biggest takeaway is that the taco environment in Chicago is much stronger than I realized, and Chicagoans are very passionate about that fact,” Rubin said.

Chicagoans expressed their pride for the news on social media and op-eds, which should not be shocking considering our city's strong taco game and city transit. You can view the full results here and see what people had to say about other cities.
