CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The city of Chicago marked a milestone Monday: its 100,000th response to graffiti removal this year.

Mayor Emanuel was on hand in the Humboldt Park neighborhood to watch a city “Graffiti Blasters” crew remove a blue and white image from a building.

"We used to have 10 days' response to a call-in to 3-1-1 -- 10 business days before we took the graffiti off,” Emanuel said. “We have that down to four days or less.  That's an incredible cut, 60 percent, and much, much better service."

The city has added trucks and crews and has put the graffiti removal system on a grid.
