CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some motorists are getting real bargains for gasoline on Monday in Bolingbrook, with prices at some stations under $2 a gallon.

"Hey, it’s a great thing," said Ron Trotter who was happy to be paying $1.98 a gallon at the Shell station at Boughton and Weber, one of several Bolingbrook gas stations with prices under $2 a gallon.

Dessy Turner didn’t even realize when she pulled up to the pump what the price was.

"No way. I haven’t gotten a $1.98 in years. It’s awesome," she said.

Sergio Estrada only needed four gallons of gas to fill up his tank and he stopped to pay under $2 a gallon.

Patrick DeHaan of Gas Buddy said the price war among several stations in Bolingbrook probably won’t last very long because the low price is not a real money-maker for them.

"If you do see some of those sub-two dollar prices, and tomorrow they’re gone, don’t be too surprised but enjoy it while it lasts," he said.

DeHaan said the big drop in prices has been in the works for weeks as the price of crude oil dropped from $74 a barrel to $50.

But, he said, OPEC ministers meet next week and could decide to reduce production of crude oil which would send prices back up.

In the meantime, motorists like Vanessa Avalos will continue to take advantage of their good fortune.

"I hope it lasts for quite some time even though we know that it probably won't stay that way but it’s nice. Nice to have it for now," she said.

Ron Trotter agrees and said, "Nothing good ever lasts as long as you want it to last so, we just got to be happy. It’s a Christmas present."
