CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There is no credible threat to Chicago or the South Side home of former president Barack Obama, Mayor Emanuel and his police superintendent said Wednesday.

Explosive devices were sent to prominent Democrats, including Obama and Hilary Clinton, and media organizations.

The mayor says the pipe bombs are a warning to all who are in public life, elected and un-elected, to work to cure divisiveness.

“There are better angels, and those are the ones we should call upon,” Emanuel said.

Both U.S. senators from Illinois have issued statements of condemnation, with Dick Durbin saying this type of dangerous extremism is unacceptable, and Tammy Duckworth saying violence against political opponents has no place in America
