CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago police are pouring more officers into one West Side district to prevent a retaliation to weekend violence.

Officers in the 10th District held an outdoor roll call Sunday in Douglas Park before heading out on their patrols.

Nearly 20 people were shot in the 10th district overnight Saturday into Sunday; at least one person died.

The shootings included a drive-by attack near a playground at Roosevelt and Sacramento that sent seven people to hospitals.

Police say all of the shootings were gang- or drug-related. Tenth District Capt. Gil Calderon said they are deploying officers to prevent retaliation.

An additional 50 additional officers, along with three organized crime units, will patrol the area.
