CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- They’re protecting people at risk of hunger by helping to serve the meals. It's the 5th annual Stuff the Squad event, in which officers and employees at Mariano's grocery stores fill bags of food for people who are hungry.

Second District Sergeant Yolanda Walton said that this shows that Chicago police are more than just crime fighters.

"Events like this allow the community to see us as maybe a brother, maybe a sister, but it shows us as being human," she said.
