CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The race for mayor of Chicago this week has featured what seem like some near-misses as some of the candidates take rhetorical swings at each other.

Mayor Emanuel has a new Facebook ad that tries to tie former Chicago police superintendent Garry McCarthy to President Donald Trump. It features some old video of Trump praising McCarthy, and then says some local Republicans offered him a job in the Trump Administration.

McCarthy released a statement saying that’s patently false and the mayor should stick to his job.

Rival challenger Lori Lightfoot was asked if she thought Emanuel is corrupt, and she stopped well short of saying that. But she also said city government doesn't work for regular people, and that is a perception and a reality.

Emanuel’s campaign criticized lawyer Lightfoot on ethics issues, but the examples they used were fairly obscure references including one that pointed out she represented Republicans in court.
