CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The last time you could legally buy spray paint in Chicago was 1992, the year “Wayne's World” was released.

WBBM's Nancy Harty reports alderman are thinking about lifting the ban.

Aldermen Ed Burke and Matt O’Shea are pushing for the change, saying hardware stores in their wards are losing business to suburban competitors.

The current proposal would require stores to post signs warning of the penalties for vandalism – and only sell to customers over age 18.

One hardware store manager in River North told Harty allowing the sale of spray paint would be a positive for the shop.
