CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- With a flip of a switch, visitors to Chicago's Millennium Park got a little Christmas on Friday night.

Hundreds of people braved cold temperatures to witness the city’s latest tree-lighting ceremony.

This year’s tree is a 48-year-old, 60-foot-tall, 8,200-pound Norway spruce from the Orth Family in Elmhurst.

According to Cultural Affairs and Special Events Deputy Commissioner Erin Harkey, the tree was among 79 offered to the city this year.

The tree will be lit until Jan. 6.
