Chicago Hotel Workers Making Noise, Literally, As Strike Continues

September 11, 2018 - 5:35 pm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The hotel workers strike has been going on since Friday, with 26 downtown hotels affected.

WBBM Newsradio’s Steve Miller was out Tuesday, checking to see if hotel guests were being affected.

Outside one hotel, a tourist from New Hampshire didn't seem fazed.

"The service I've had has been really not compromised at all. The workers seem to be wearing different shirts, is about the main thing I could tell."

But at the same hotel: A couple from New Mexico was less than happy.

"There was no room service. There was no maid service. The managers are doing all of the work that the union workers should be doing."

Most people we spoke with had one common complaint about the picket lines – the noise that participants were making.

We asked a union spokeswoman about the noise. Her response: This is the broadest hotel strike the city has ever seen.

Workers say they want better wages and benefits.

Twenty-six downtown hotels are now affected by the hotel workers strike.
