CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Catholic churches in the Chicago area rang their bells at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday -- the same time the catastrophic fire started at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on Monday.

Cardinal Blase Cupich made the request so that Chicago could show solidarity with those in France.

Holy Name Cathedral was among the churches that marked the occasion.

French President Emmanuel Macron said he hopes Notre Dame can be repaired and reopened within five years.
