CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Soccer fans got an early start to their day as they watched Brazil defeat Mexico 2-0 in the World Cup.

Fans of Team Mexico gathered at bars and restaurants across Chicago.  A healthy contingent of fans turned out at Simone's on 18th Street in the Pilsen neighborhood.

"All of the games I have been watching at home.  So, I just get up and turn on my TV so this is the first time I've had a group experience for this World Cup," said soccer fan Jamar Ismael, who is visiting Chicago from San Francisco.

Veronica Castro grew up in San Diego, but now calls Chicago home.  She's watched several World Cup matches at Simone's.

"You feel the energy here and you really feel like a part of a collective," she said.

Some fans say they will follow the World Cup through to the end.  Not Nicholas Rodriguez of Chicago. He was rooting for Mexico to move on.

"I'm out, unfortunately."
