CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- As part of it's ongoing legal public service program, the Chicago Bar Association is holding it's "Call-A-Lawyer" event this weekend

For a few hours, the public can call the Chicago Bar Association's "Call-A-Lawyer" program, briefly explain their situation to an attorney, who will then suggest self-help strategies or provide advice to help resolve the caller's issues.

Maryam Ahmad, the group's First Vice President tells WBBM Newsradio, "for example, if a person has a question about a landlord tenant issue, or a contract issue, or a divorce, they can call in and obtain free legal advice from that lawyer."

If a question is more complicated than a telephone call will allow, "what we are going to do is recommend that the resident call back to our lawyer referral program," Ahmad said, "and so our lawyer referral program is available online all day, every day, where a person can seek legal guidance from an attorney, whom they would speak to with a possibility of obtaining that lawyer eventually."

Ahmad said the CBA has more than 200 prescreened lawyers in almost every area of law that offer their services to the public.

Calls for the Call-A-Lawyer program will be accepted Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at 312-554-2001.
