(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A suburban Chicago woman is in the hospital, after being struck by lightning in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, early Friday.

The 22-year-old woman who was struck by lightning has been identified as Brittney Prehn. Her Facebook page says studied at the College of DuPage.

Kevin Myers, one of the paramedics called to the scene in Kenosha County, told WBBM Newsradio that Prehn had apparently been standing out in the open near a campground when she was struck.

She may have been on her phone.

"The phone was completely destroyed. The screen was shattered. The phone itself was separating. The case it was in was completely blown apart, and there were some char marks on the phone,” Myers said.

The front of Prehn's boot was blown off, he said.

Prehn was not talking, but was able to respond to commands from paramedics.

WBBM spoke with a family member about 1 p.m. Friday, and she said Prehn was about to be taken into surgery.

Prehn was in Kenosha to attend a country music concert.
