Challenger To State Comptroller Suggests Incumbent Will Run For Mayor

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Republican candidate for Illinois state comptroller says she’s running against an incumbent Democrat who seems to be preparing to quit that job almost as soon as wins re-election, if she does.

Former State Rep. Darlene Senger said incumbent Comptroller Susana Mendoza refuses to say if she will run for mayor of Chicago. She said ever since Rahm Emanuel announced he is not seeking re-election, Mendoza’s been acting like she’ll enter the race.

Senger says mayoral nominating petitions are being circulated in Mendoza’s name, and she taped a TV commercial that could almost be used for either a state or city campaign.

The Naperville Republican calls that disingenuous. She said Mendoza should be honest with voters so they’ll know if they are voting for someone who wants to keep the comptroller’s job.

That way, she said, voters would pay more attention to the two other candidates in the race: her and and Libertarian Party candidate Claire Ball.
