CHA Building Honors Its Military Veterans

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A North Side CHA seniors building honored its military veterans Friday.

Seventy-five-year-old Robert Scott was in Vietnam when he was in his 20s.

He remembers the first time he was shot at.

"Scared the hell out of me," he said, with a laugh. "It did."

He remembers coming back from Vietnam and being called names by war protesters.

"I used to have anger issues, that's what they call it now. I just thought I was mad for no reason,” he said.

Then, the ceremony. Scott told the crowd of seniors and CHA officials that if he had it to do over, he was proudly serve again.

"You can call me anything you want to call me. But here is where I stand, always and forever.

"I salute you. I salute you. I salute you. I salute you. God bless you."
