CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 31-year-old central Illinois man has started a campaign to have the rest of Illinois secede from Chicago.

Collin Cliburn wants people to know he is serious about secession.

"I don't want this to be a joke to people from Chicago,” he told WBBM Newsradio’s Steve Miller.

Cliburn is from Athens, north of Springfield. His website shows a map of the state of Illinois, with Chicago missing.

“Join the group willing to stand up to Chicago politicians and their tyranny,” the website says.

He said he has nothing against Chicago residents or the city, and he's a White Sox fan.

"I don't understand exactly why people from Chicago would even be against this, for one, because it would make everything easier for them,” Cliburn said.

The new Chicago-less state would be called the state of Lincoln.
