CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There are already fast-food halal options, but now an upscale downtown Chicago restaurant has created a new Halal menu featuring halal steaks, prepared to conform to Islamic law.

"I think we are going to see more of this happenning," said Catch 35 customer and public relations maven, Arjumand Khan.

He helped get the halal ball rolling at Catch 35 to cater to Muslim customers.

"It's an untapped market, it's a money making market," he said.

The executive chef of Catch 35, Eddie Sweeney, said more and more people have been asking for halal steaks.

"I was running to the store and picking them up and putting them in the cooler and bringing them back in kind of a pre-order thing.  But we're getting more and more each week," he said.

He said there is just a bit of difference in the taste.

"The only difference is that there is a slight age difference - the beef halal here is less than two weeks slaughtered, so there is not much age on it," Sweeney said.

WBBM Newradio asked Sweeney if Catch 35 would consider a Kosher menu?

"I am open to it," he said. "I mean we do have some Kosher guests."

One of the main reasons the restaurant is now offering halal steaks is because of customer and public relations maven Arjumand Khan, who is Muslim.

"This is actually unprecedented because it's rare for a Muslim family to be able to go out and enjoy a steak at an upscale restaurant," Khan said.

Khan said this puts Chicago on the culinary map.
