Carp-O-Rama Held In North Suburb

LIBERTYVILLE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Someone in Libertyville will be crowned the king or queen of carp this weekend.

The problem: There's an overabundance of common carp lurking at the bottom of the lake in the Independence Grove Forest Preserve.

“We’re overpopulated,” says Visitor Services Manager Sara Page. “So, we decided to turn this into an event.”

That event would be Carp-O-Rama. It’s a fishing tournament in the south bay of the forest preserve that starts at 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

You can fish for fun and a cash prize.

Competitors have caught an average of 12 to 15 carp in previous years.  When it comes to bait, Page said hot dogs and corn work best.
