(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Police say one group of thieves may be responsible for as many as 11 carjackings on the North Side since the beginning of the month.

Most recently, there were three carjackings overnight.

That's on top of eight other carjackings in the Lincoln Park or Lakeview area since the first of the month.

Chicago Police Spokesman Thomas Ahern says they may be the work of the same thieves.

"I know that the Area detectives are looking into that possibility, that there may be a ring of car thieves that are working on the Near North Side,” he said.

The three most recent victims: two women in their 20s and a 25-year-old man delivering food.

Two of the stolen cars reportedly were found on the South Side.

Ahern said carjackings in the city are down about 13 percent from this time last year.

People should stay alert when they approach their cars and not be distracted by cell phones and to park in a well-lighted area, Ahern said.
