Cambria Hotel Strike Drags Into Winter

November 29, 2018 - 6:11 pm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Workers at a Chicago hotel who remain on strike say they're bracing for a long winter.

Workers at the Cambria Chicago Magnificent Mile, at 166 East Superior St., are still walking the picket line, even as winter weather sets in.

They were out in force again, about two dozen of them, Thursday afternoon.

Don Lydon has been a bartender at the hotel for 14 years and tells WBBM: “We joined a citywide strike fighting for year-round health insurance and since we've been on strike every hotel in the city has settled. Our hotel is refusing to sign a contract unless we agree to an increase workload for our housekeepers.

“We're refusing to accept that, we're not going to be treated like second-class hotel workers."

Samuel Yrlo, a doorman at the Cambria, told WBBM that he's ready to keep picketing in the cold.

WBBM Newsradio has reached out to management at the Cambria Hotel for comment.
