CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two brothers lured their landlord, 76-year-old Vasudevareddy Kethireddy, to their rental house in Englewood by telling him they had a leaky roof and then murdered him before dumping his body in a sewer, Cook County prosecutors said in court Monday.

Twenty-five-year-old Elijah Green and Tony Green, 22, who were arrested over the weekend, allegedly strangled Kethireddy in early August before disposing of the body. The brothers even did an online search for how long it takes a body to decompose in a sewer.

Kethireddy's son, Shantan, says it's all hard to imagine.

"These were two brothers who were shaking my hand and giving me hugs and expressing their condolences," he told reporters.

The younger Kethireddy said it all contrasts with his father’s life as a gentle person.

"My dad was always very, very spiritual. He didn't harbor resentment. He didn't harbor hate. He was the type of person who would give anybody a break as long as they were honest and upfront with him.”

The judge denied bail for both brothers. Their next court date is Oct. 5.

Shantan Kethireddy said: "It's really hard for me to imagine what life experiences led a family to take the life of a 76-year-old disabled man."
