Blue Line Service Resumes With Delays In Loop After Small Track Fire Near Grand

January 31, 2019 - 12:40 pm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Blue Line trains were moving with delays through the Loop Thursday afternoon because of a “minor fire” near the Grand station.

Trains were halted near Grand shortly after 11:30 a.m. because of a “minor fire at track level,” according to an alert from the Chicago Transit Authority. All service was temporarily suspended between Damen and LaSalle.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt said the fire was caused by an electrical issue and was put out “very quickly.”

As of 12:30 p.m., trains were moving again with “limited service” between Damen and LaSalle, the CTA said. Riders were required to change trains at Damen and LaSalle to continue through the affected area. Shuttle buses were also available.

Trains were operating with normal service between O’Hare and Damen and between LaSalle and Forest Park, according to the CTA.
