Behold, The Latest Proposed Redesign Of Chicago's Union Station

June 25, 2018 - 8:23 pm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Developers have unveiled their vision of what a revamped Union Station would look like, though the project is far from a done deal.

Riverside Investment & Development, which is working with building owner Amtrak, has developed a new series of artist renderings that depict a seven-floor glass structure atop the existing passenger train station. The mixed-use complex would include retail and residential and hotel rooms.

Amtrak for years has been interested in redeveloping Union, which includes its famous underground Great Hall. Besides Amtrak, Union Station is a major hub for the suburban rail agency Metra.

Ald. Brendan Reilly, 42nd Ward, tells Crain's Chicago Business he's undecided about the latest design vision and wants to hear from his constituents.
