AURORA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A North Aurora man is behind bars for the third time in as many months, and his most recent run-in with police is hard to believe.

Officers were called to a home in the 600 block of Oak Street Saturday morning, after a woman found that two pairs of boots and several other things had been stolen from her car.

Deputy North Aurora Police Chief Scott Buziecki said the suspect, 20-year-old Misael Bautista, then brought the boots and receipt to an Aurora shop in hopes of returning them for cash.

"The bad luck for him was that the employee working at the store that he was trying to return them, too, was the owner of the car that he stole the boots out of," Buziecki said. "Of all the cars that you could break into and all of the stores that you could try to return the stolen items to. For that person to be working there, it's got to be like a million to one chances or something."

Bautista was then taken into custody. Buziecki said he'd been arrested for similar vehicle burglaries in September and earlier this month.

Bond has been set at nearly $20,000.

“In 24 years on the job, this has got to be right near the top of just bad luck, bad karma for it to happen that way. I don't know what's going on in his head but clearly it's not very smart,” Buziecki said.
