AURORA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Thanks to a major fundraising push, Aurora residents were able to take to the streets of downtown Sunday afternoon for the city's second annual Pride Parade.

They lined the streets of downtown Aurora, as floats from local churches, businesses and organizations made their way down Broadway.

City officials temporarily called off the parade in April, citing rising costs.

But in the span of 24 hours, residents raised nearly $20,000 to bring back the parade.

Aurora Police could be seen monitoring the parade from rooftops, as the event brought out a small number of protestors, though Emma Nicholas, one of the parade's younger visitors, didn't seem to mind.

"Sure, there are people who are offended by who you are. It doesn't matter. Be yourself."
