AURORA (WBBM Newsradio) -- Aurora Police chief Kristen Ziman is praising the officers who were wounded and all others who were prepared to go in during Friday’s deadly mass shooting at the Henry Pratt Co. plant.

In a note of thanks on her department’s Facebook page posted Tuesday, she called the officers “warriors” and “heroes.”

“Every time an officer was hit, another went in,” she wrote. “No one retreated.”

Her one regret, she said, is that officers couldn’t prevent the murders. She said officers responded – on-duty and off-duty -- and added that other chiefs of police asked her how they could help.

The response was no surprise to Ziman, but she said she was overwhelmed by the hundreds of officers, nonetheless.

Ziman said her department has been inundated with food, flowers, letters and well wishes, for which she is grateful.

“We are Aurora strong.”
