Attack On Woman Leaves DePaul Community Frightened

July 18, 2019 - 4:53 pm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Police are looking at surveillance video around DePaul University's Lincoln Park campus in hopes of finding the attacker who slashed the neck and face of a 22-year-old female graduate.

Police are calling the incident early Thursday a "sexually motivated attack.” Someone drove the wrong way on Belden, turned on Halsted and stopped the car to attack the woman on the sidewalk.

WBBM Newsradio’s Steve Miller spoke with women who live in the area. Two of them -- walking together -- said they always try to walk in pairs.

"I'm glad we have each other when we're going out, and we've taken self-defense classes and feel prepared for those kinds of things. But I don't know if you're ever prepared until they kind of happen,” one of them said.

Another woman said she tries to be careful.

"I try not to put ear pods in. I try to pay attention. But you know what?  Honestly, if somebody has evil in their heart, how can you prepare for that?"
