(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Hundreds of protesters turned out in Chicago Thursday night to express fear and anger that the Mueller investigation could be stopped by President Trump.

The rally started at Federal Plaza and, picking up more participants, ended up near Trump Tower, at Wacker and Wabash. The line of protesters seemed to go on and on.

Marchers said they were demonstrating against the current state of affairs.

"I think we're run by lawless thieves,” said one Chicago man. “It feels like every day there's an opportunity to do this. This is not normal.  We're being sort of doused into thinking this is normal.

"We can't sleep.  Everything that's happening now is historic.  We're going to remember this in a generation, and our generation will tell the next generation where every day was reality like this.”

"Mueller himself and the investigation is at risk now with the firing of Attorney General Jeff Sessions," said a north suburban woman who was at the rally.

She said she's been to Washington to protest the Trump administration.

"And I just want to be part of letting the White House know that what they're doing won't be tolerated by good decent Americans. Because what comes out of there is not good.  It's not decent.

"All the name-calling. And it just makes a good person ill."

Chicago Police kept the Wabash Avenue Bridge blocked off so protesters could not approach Trump Tower.

Their estimate of the crowd at its zenith was about 2,000 people.
