NAPERVILLE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police in Naperville say a tip from the public helped spoil a California man's trip to the suburb this week.

The tip was that someone aboard an Amtrak train, headed for Naperville on Monday afternoon, had a large amount of marijuana.

"The train was due in at 2 p.m. on that day," Naperville Police Commander Louis Cammiso said. "Our special operations officers then observed the subject."

A canine search led officers to 52 pounds of the drug inside the luggage of 56-year-old David Gordon of Sacramento.

"It's a large amount, about $230,000 street value. To take that much illegal drugs off the street, pretty good case,” Cammiso said.

Gordon is charged with cannabis trafficking and possession of over 5,000 grams. He's being held at the DuPage County Jail on $150,000 bond.

"We consider states like California and Arizona 'source' states," Cammiso said. "The source of large amounts of drugs, whether it be cannabis, cocaine or anything else. These arrests are pretty common."
