With All The Rain, There Could Be Mosquito Bumper Crop

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- All this recent rain could mean your 4th of July festivities will be full of mosquitoes.

The rain we've been getting regularly might be great for your garden, but it's also encouraging mosquitoes to grow.

George Balis, an entomologist and manager for the mosquito abatement company Clarke, says different types emerge in different temperatures, but they all like water.

If you want fewer mosquitoes at your fireworks display, he recommends dump any standing water around your house now.

Balis says he's seen more breeding this year because of the rain but we'll get a small amount of relief from mosquitoes carrying West Nile Virus because the heavy downpours have disturbed their larva.
