Alderman Vows To Block Landfill

June 27, 2018 - 3:36 pm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The alderman of the 10th Ward says she — and her constituents — are literally not going to take it anymore when it comes to a planned landfill in their area.

Several community leaders came to City Hall Wednesday to demand that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers abandon plans for a dump in the 10th Ward.

Often, aldermen can block projects in their wards. That’s what 10th Ward Ald. Susan Sadlowski-Garza says she will try to do.

She said the community already has eight landfills, and she’s determined to do everything in her power to keep from being the site of another one.

Stakeholders will be meeting with members of the Corps of Engineers this week to express their opposition, the alderman said.
