(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Ald. Carrie Austin canceled a town hall meeting with constituents a day after federal agents raided her ward office

Supporters such as Grady Davis and detractors, including Betty Ann Reed, said they’re disappointed Austin canceled the meeting because she would have had a chance to explain her side of the story to 34th Ward residents.

The FBI will only say the search of Austin’s ward office involved court-authorized law enforcement activities.

Austin is a veteran alderman who was the chair of the City Council’s Budget Committee until Mayor Lightfoot removed her from that post and instead put Austin in charge of the new Committee on Contracting Oversight and Equity.

Lightfoot said it’s too early to comment about Austin’s potential legal troubles. She has assailed Ald. Ed Burke, but he faces corruption charges.
