CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- It was another volatile day on Wall Street as stocks closed sharply lower, adding to the already steep losses for the month.

The S&P 500 lost 40, the NASDAQ shed 157 and the Dow Jones industrial average closed down nearly 328 points, settling to 25,379.

"Another day where investors are really paying attention to earnings, trying to figure out what the future may hold,” explained Susan Schmidt, Portfolio Manager at Aviva Investors in Chicago.

Meantime, she said the Fed has signaled it will continue increasing interest rates and there is a continuing trade war between the U.S. and China. It all makes for a “nervous market,” she said.
