BARRINGTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A community meeting Tuesday night in Barrington seeks to increase acceptance and reduce harassment of members of that suburb's LGBTQ community.

Patrick Watson, the community activist who organized the meeting at the Barrington Area Library, says two incidents prompted the meeting.

One was the case of a lesbian couple who had a pride flag in their yard replaced by an American flag.

The second involved a Barrington High School student, whom Watson says was bullied online, and had signs posted outside her family's home telling her to move. Someone also sent a note suggesting she kill herself, Watson said.

Watson said he hopes the meeting with community leaders and residents will raise awareness about and understanding of the LGBTQ community in Barrington, as well as lead to community events to help achieve those goals.
