CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police arrested five people and seized 25 weapons overnight after being called to a “gang-related party” in Wicker Park.

Officers responded shortly after 2 a.m. to the party in the 1200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

Guglielmi said there were 150 people at the party, which was at a residence that was either for rent or an Air BnB, he said.

Police contacted the Area North Saturation and Gang teams, who are "especially equipped to deal with gang violence," he said, adding that the bust was a tactical effort to make sure no one was harmed.

"There was certainly a large number of weapons that could have been a risk to the neighborhood," Guglielmi said. "So that's why we contacted the specialized units."

He said several people fled the scene but those arrested are currently being questioned by detectives and police are looking into the seized guns.

"We're running traces on all of those weapons, trying to cross them with any crimes that may have occurred in or around Chicago," he said.

Police are also looking into what kind of party it was and whether people were selling and buying guns.
