CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two Chicago police officers have been relieved of their police powers in the wake of an incident at a Northwest Side mall in which two African-American women were pulled from their car and one was pinned to the ground.

Chicago Police Supt. David Brown made the announcement Friday evening.

Sunday night's incident has been highly scrutinized. Police pulled two women from a vehicle at Brickyard Mall, windows were broken and one was taken to the ground and pinned with a knee to the neck. Police were responding to looting at the retail site, but the women say they had done nothing wrong.

The two officers who are now sidelined were not identified by Supt. Brown. He noted that investigations continue. In fact, multiple agencies, including the FBI, are looking into whether police abused their authority.
